Creekside Elementary School
Interstate Engineering was hired in the summer of 2008 by the Williams Architecture to assist in the design of a 57,000 square foot elementary school in Spearfish South Dakota. Interstate Engineering was part of a multi-disciplined design team that designed a new 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade elementary school at the north end of the City of Spearfish. The design team consisted of Architects, Land Surveyors, Civil Engineers, Transportation Engineers, Structural Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers. Interstate Engineering handled three of these roles on the project: Land Surveyor, Civil Engineer, and Transportation Engineer.
Interstate Engineering was hired in the summer of 2008 to complete the topographic surveying, civil site design, and transportation planning. Interstate Engineering worked with the SD DOT and the City of Spearfish to design the access off of a state highway. Interstate Engineering designed the turn lanes for the SD DOT US Highway 85 going into the school and access way to and from the school and also handled all of the FEMA floodplain requirements for the project.
Interstate Engineering designed the site grading, concrete and asphalt parking lots, detention pond, site utilities including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, power, gas, and telecommunications. The site consisted of 18 acres and a 57,000 square foot building footprint than had three different floor elevations.
Interstate Engineering had an active construction observation presence during the site grading and utility installation of the project during the first 6 months of construction and the last 6 months of construction when the concrete sidewalks and parking lots were installed.
